I listen to a lot of music somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 bands per week, but every once in a while a band jumps out at me and screams for attention. Out of the depths of Celje, Slovenia comes such a band known as Last Day Here. They recently sent me a copy of their debut release "From Pieces Created" and it is solid from the first second to the last. The CD begins with a raging song entitled "Burning Inside". It has a hard metalcore sound mixed with melodic guitars and

ripping drum lines. What makes this song, and the band as a whole unique however, is the clarity and depth of the lyrics. The band approaches deep subjects with an strong intesity and an ability to pour soul and emotion into their music; they throw all their body out and expose their vulnerability while expressing rage, sadness, optimism and pessimism. With this the band holds both the ability to crush the alternative radio charts and still pound you with metal riffs.

The CD then transforms again with the second track "Never Coming Around". This song has great harmony with crisp guitars, and a driving background. Again "ready made" for alternative radio, this song will hit you square between the eyes with both ripping lead guitars and vocals.

Finally the climax of the CD in my mind is the powerful 8th track called "Standing in Dark". The song approaches darkness and loneliness with soulful vocals, and a crushing background. It is by far one of the best songs I have heard from a new band this year.
There was not one song on this CD I did not like and I can tell you honestly that this band will be around for a long time. You owe it to yourself to pick this one up and give it a long listen or two!
Band BIO
The saga of the band LastDayHere began early in 2005 with a hardcore metal band called "Shades of grey". It was formed by Filip Gacic on guitar (ex Prophesy) and Pero J. on drums (ex Supremacy). Together they formed some material, and two months later, in the middle of April 2005 Uros B. (7th dimension project) joined the band. Uros added unique sound to the band and together they had written 4 songs. A new chapter in the saga began when Uros B. wrote a song called "This Time" and Pero added very powerful drum parts to the track. Unfortunately Filip was not satisfied with the new style and left the band on good terms.
So Uros and Pero started to look for new members (a vocalist, bass player and rhythm guitarist). Pero invited his dear friend Marko D. (ex Supremacy vocalist) for a drink and played him "This Time". Marko liked it and joined the new formed band with a new name "LastDayHere" in October 2005 and added the vocal parts (clean vocals with modern raw overtones and some screams). Besides "This Time", they also made songs like: "Standing in Dark", "Never Coming Around", "Take Away", "Burned Inside", "Coming Alive", "Hide", "Deep Down Surrounded", "Faith Somewhere" and the last song called "Saved From Falling".
On 11th of February 2006 they recorded a Demo in their rehearsal place (their own production) with all 10 songs on it (for promotion and recording studio needs). They also planned to record a debut album.
In early April 2006, Tomi S. (session bass player) joined the LastDayHere "trio". With his bass skills he created the subs and some great fills on the bass guitar.
They still needed a rhythm guitarist. Jure G. took that place in May 2006. He added some harmonies and rhythm guitar parts to the songs. And so the band formation was complete!
In December 2006 they recorded another demo with Take Away and Standing in Dark on it. It was once again produced by themselves.
They entered the studio in June 2006 and unfortunately they had bad luck with producer and the dead lines for the album.
In April 2007, Pero decided to leave the band, to continue his carrier in another direction. After months of searching for new drummer, the band finally found a replacement. In July 2007 Mohor M. joined the band.

Actually they don´t really know which genre LastDayHere is... It certainly is modern melodic metal with powerful drums, heavy and melodic riffs on 7 string guitars, with some breakdowns and clean/raw/sometimes scream vocals. Something very unique...
In October 2007 their debut album called "From Pieces Created" was finally finished and the guys have started to work on new material.
